Meet Tanner Pickard
With a background in statistics and data science, I have enjoyed using numbers and information as a way to interpret and understand the world around us.
I hope to use this knowledge to craft the future of law. I want to be a professional that is informed and proficient with innovations like Large Language Models, Monte Carlo Markov Chain Simulations, Neural Networks, and other forms of AI.
My Story
I grew up in the rolling hills of Moscow, Idaho. After graduating high school, I spent two years as a volunteer in Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
I started attending Brigham Young University in 2017. I majored in Statistics with an emphasis in Data Science.
My Studies required a capstone project. My team worked with the dating app Mutual to create an identity verification system for users. The created solution had an over 99% accuracy, with near zero false positives.
I graduated in 2021 with my Bachelor’s of Science, with experience in the coding languages of SQL, Python, and R.
While I was still a student, I started working in the Data Operations department at Motivhealth, a Health Insurance company in South Jordan, Utah. As part of a team of interns, I developed an automated Error Detection System.
The Error Detection System reduced database errors by nearly 95% and saved the company hundreds of thousands of dollars in missed billing.
Soon after graduation, I was promoted to the Data Management team. I created a tool that automatically processed medical provider rosters from different hospital teams to inform customers of in-network treatment options.
That project led to other opportunities: I expanded the Error Detection System to be compatible with other departments. I also fixed a legacy address regularizing system my project referenced which malfunctioned during development.
